Chairman’s Message

The origins of Gülsan Group were laid by my father (Aziz Gül) in 1946. When he passed in 1964, I have filled his shoes. After my brothers Refik and Mehmet Gül joined me, we decided to move our head office to Ankara, in the first half of 1980s. We also established our Istanbul office at this time.

For the last 50 years we have been building roads. Our group was propelled to success by our operations in the infrastructure, road and motorway construction sectors. We have completed more than 500 bridges and almost a thousand kilometers of road.

Some projects reached new records nation and worldwide. For instance Nissibi Cable-Stayed Bridge was the 3rd (2015) longest spanned and 1st domestic cable-stayed bridge in Turkey. At the moment we are constructing yet another bridge, the single pylon Kömürhan Cable-Stayed Bridge.

From 2003 onwards, major construction contracts were awarded to Gulsan. We were the first Turkish company to set foot (completed 5 projects) in Afghanistan. Other significant contracts undertaken in the same and the following decade were: Kiev-Chop M06 Highway in Ukraine funded by EBRD, Juba-Nimule Road Construction Project in Southern Sudan funded by USAID, Merille-Marsabit Road Construction Project in Kenya funded by EU and Khorgos-Almaty Concrete Motorway Construction Project in Kazakhstan (Lot I-Lot II) funded by the World Bank.

We also act as an investor in the countries we operate in. For instance, right after the completion of a project in Ukraine, we have built and commissioned an air rated concrete plant here. We are still looking for new investment opportunities in industry sector both in Turkey and abroad.

In 2008 we began to venture into energy sector and have so far completed 5 (240MW) hydropower plants. Our medium-term installed capacity target is 500 MW, generating 1.5 billion KWh. In order to reach this, we are working hard on the design and development of other (two under construction) projects. We also proceed with detailed feasibility studies for solar and thermic energy as well. We are also a player in tourism. We have 4 hotels in full operation, including Swissôtel Ankara.

Our road story, which started on roads, evolves every day for the better, as we always aim for both success and improvement. We will continue our investments and sustainable growth policy with sound and prudent moves by following development on a global scale.
